UNDERSERVED CHILDREN & FAMILIES
NHF has worked to address the health and healthcare needs of underserved communities in California for more than two decades. Among the underserved, lack of health insurance remains one of the biggest challenges facing not only the state but the nation. Of the growing 6.5 million uninsured Californians, more than one million are children. NHF has been and continues to be a leader in ensuring that all children and their families have access to appropriate healthcare coverage through the dissemination of comprehensive information about healthcare coverage programs statewide, trainings and technical assistance. Known for the high quality curricula it develops and information it provides, NHF is regarded as the preeminent training agency in Los Angeles County, working to achieve the goal of reducing the number of uninsured families through its CHAMP training program and CHAMP-Net website. Through its complementary programs, Pregnant and Parenting Teen program and Be a STAR, NHF works to reduce the incidence of teen pregnancy and increase high school graduation rates among pregnant and parenting teens and teens at risk for becoming teen parents.
