In Orange County, homeless persons needing further recovery from an acute illness or injury after hospitalization may benefit from the Orange County Recuperative Care program. The recuperative care program provides:
  • A safe and clean environment where the homeless patient can recover with medical oversight for an average of 10 days.
  • Homeless patients that are medically discharged from a hospital and deemed appropriate to return to a home environment can be referred for the Recuperative Care program.
  • The program is not designed to address the ongoing chronic medical conditions of the homeless, but rather to provide the basic medical and custodial care necessary to stabilize the patient after hospital discharge, and then connect them to social services and transitional or permanent housing programs.
