Lyndee Knox

Lyndee M. Knox, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at the University of Southern California. She is Co-Director of the Southern California Center of Academic Excellence for Youth Violence Prevention funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and is founding director of LA Net, a primary care practice based research network focused on the study of causes and solutions to minority health disparities in the region. Dr. Knox also serves as Director of the Research and Evaluation Division in the Department of Family Medicine. She has served as an advisor to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Health Resources and Services Administration, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the American Medical Association on health disparities related topics, and serves on the advisory boards of several minority-focused community based organizations in the Southern California area including Latino Health Access, the South Asian Network, and Correcthelp, a non-profit organization advocating for improved health care for HIV positive inmates in jail and prison systems in California. Dr. Knox received her Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin in 1999 and has been awarded research fellowships from the University of Texas-Austin, the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health, Harvard University, the University of Southern California, and the American Psychological Association. Prior to her arrival at USC, Dr. Knox worked for the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health to evaluate the impact of a $12 million school-based health and mental health demonstration project in Texas. Dr. Knox just recently published a book on youth violence prevention with the American Medical Association that aims to increase health professionals’ involvement in the prevention of youth violence, public health problem that disproportionately affects poor and minority communities in this country. Dr. Knox is married to Mr. Gregorio Luke, a Mexican national and director of the Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach, California and is mother to a nine-month old son, Andres Luke.
