| Michael D. Stephens is President and CEO of Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian, which is a 409-bed not-for-profit facility with operating revenues of $400 million, making it the largest in Orange County. It has yearly admissions of 24,000 patients and has consistently ranked as number one in the annual Orange County hospital preference poll. In 2002, Hoag Hospital received the Consumers’ Choice Award from the National Research Foundation for the seventh consecutive year. In 1999, the Hoag Heart Institute and the Hoag Orthopedic Center received a five-star rating from Health Grades, Inc.
Mr. Stephens received his BA degree from Columbia College in 1966, a Master’s in Hospital Administration from Columbia University in 1970, and a Master's of Business Administration from Clemson University in 1974. He served an administrative residency with The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City in 1969-70. He joined the Greenville Hospital System in Greenville, South Carolina in 1970, where he became a Division Administrator. In 1975, he assumed his current position as President and CEO of Hoag Hospital.
Mr. Stephens is a diplomate of the American College of Healthcare Executives and currently serves as a board member of the National Health Foundation and NORCAL Mutual Insurance Company, Covenant Care, and as board chair of the Orange County YMCA. He is a past chairman of the California Healthcare Association and the Healthcare Association of Southern California, and was a member of the board of the American Hospital Association, VHA, Inc., and Blue Cross of California.
Mr. Stephens and his wife reside in Newport Beach and have two adult children. |
